Why Respect for Rank Keeps Everyone Safe
Ranks exist so that, in a crisis, nobody has to ask who decides. Sociologists who study organisations, starting with Max Weber, describe rank as authority attached to a post, not to a person. You salute the post, and the post was earned.
Officers in our group did not get their rank for free. They passed the Academy, led events, trained recruits and answered for their men's mistakes. Mocking them mocks that work.
Respect also protects the newest members. Studies of school and workplace groups show that when mocking people in charge becomes normal, mocking everyone else soon follows. Groups with open disrespect at the top have more bullying at the bottom.
There is a morale cost. An officer who is mocked in public loses some of his ability to lead the next event, and the unit pays for it in the field.
From the Leader's side, the ranks are the skeleton of the Imperium. Crack them, and the whole body sags.
Our own house has a recent example. In September 2026 Qwerty, a Generalissimo with a seat in Octavian Leadership, mocked a court session and disrespected a Graend Councilman. His rank did not protect him: he was liquidated, and later removed from his position.
If an officer is wrong, report it through the proper channel. Respect upward, respect downward, respect always. And one day, earn a rank of your own.
The oath of humility
I mocked an officer of the Imperium!
Every rank was earned, and I respect it!
I will salute and speak with respect!
I will earn my own rank with honour!
I am nothing without the Imperium!
My pride is my enemy!
My rank is lent to me, not owned by me!
I bow my head before the cause!
I was weak, and the weak are carried by the strong!
I will carry my brothers, and never be carried!
I will obey every lawful order!
I will speak of victory, never of defeat!
I will guard my tongue and guard my post!
I will be first to the muster and last to leave!
I give my strength to Octavium!
I give my loyalty to Aleczaender!
I, (Username), swear as a steadfast loyalist of Aleczaender
With dedication as a proclaimed Octavian
To serve, and declare sincere loyalty
To obey every lawful order given
To educate all newcomers of Octavium,
To master the lore of Aleczaender,
To uphold my role in service under this Oath
In my duty for Octavium
And under our Great Leader Aleczaender.
I therefore vow to commit to this Oath
And if I am to ever break this sworn Oath,
Then I will accept the consequences of my failure
AVE ALECZAENDER AVE OCTAVIUM.
Thirty lines, screamed one by one after the instructor. A line that is not loud enough is screamed again.
The chant
DEATH TO DISRESPECT!
ALECZAENDER!
VICTORY OR NOTHING!
DEATH TO DEFEATISM! DEATH TO DEFEATISM! DEATH TO DEFEATISM!
